About Us

 about us

The experts at Downriver Stone Design promise to deliver Experience, Trust, and Value. The building at 2836 Biddle Avenue in Wyandotte originally served as an office for attorney Ari Woodruff. In 1920, a monument business was started by Tom's maternal grandfather, John Raubar, in Detroit.  The Wyandotte branch of Raubar Granite opened on Biddle Avenue in 1949 and named the Woodruff Monument Company.

Co-owners Dianne and Tom Woodruff renamed the company in 2003 to merge the Woodruff Monument Company with the countertop and cabinetry division. Downriver Stone Design remains family-owned and operated for three generations. The members of the Woodruff family are proud to be business owners in Wyandotte for the past 100 years.

About Tom and Dianne Woodruff

Stonecutter Tom Woodruff apprenticed with his father and grandfather, and has won several design awards. He is a member of Michigan Monument Builders, The American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Tom serves on the board for the State of Michigan’s Veteran Trust, and is a Mason and a Shriner. He and his wife, Dianne, belong to Wyandotte Rotary, and are  members of the Salvation Army Advisory Committee. Tom and Diane are respected Wyandotte business owners, and participate frequently in community events. You will see many examples of their work in Wyandotte, including the Purple Heart Memorial, the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial, the WWII Veteran’s monument, and at the display area garden at their store.
